About the Digital Communications Manager Opening:
ExcelinEd seeks a dynamic and creative Digital Communications Manager to develop and execute a comprehensive digital communications strategy in support of the organization’s mission. This individual will be a skilled storyteller who can translate complex policy issues into compelling content across a variety of digital platforms. The ideal candidate possesses a passion for transforming education, deep expertise in leveraging digital tools to drive content engagement and a strong understanding of the digital landscape.
The Digital Communications Manager serves as a member of the communications team and is responsible for website, email and social media management and outreach. This position includes assisting with, and collaborating on, the development of creative marketing content for online and integrated communications efforts supporting ExcelinEd’s policy and advocacy initiatives.
The Digital Communications Manager reports to the VP of Communications and can work remotely from a virtual office in the United States.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Development:
- Crafts engaging and informative content for ExcelinEd’s website, blog, social media channels, email newsletters and other digital platforms.
- Collaborates with policy experts to translate research and data into shareable infographics, videos and other visual formats.
- Ensures content aligns with ExcelinEd’s brand, voice and messaging.
Social Media Management:
- Manages ExcelinEd’s social media presence on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
- Develops and implements a social media calendar, actively engages with followers and curates relevant content.
- Monitors and analyzes social media metrics to track performance, inform communications and engagement strategies and identify growth opportunities.
- Manages digital ad campaigns, including coordinating contracts and deliverables with vendors.
- Manages on-site digital engagement for ExcelinEd’s National Summit on Education.
Website Management:
- Updates and maintains ExcelinEd’s website using a content management system (CMS).
- Ensures website content is accurate, up-to-date and optimized for search engines (SEO).
- Works with web developers to troubleshoot technical issues and implements new features.
Email Marketing:
- Designs and executes email campaigns to promote ExcelinEd’s resources, events and advocacy initiatives.
- Segments email lists and personalizes content to target specific audiences, including multivariate tests on email campaigns.
- Builds email lists through engaging paid and earned lead generation.
- Ensures email lists are regularly cleaned and updated with new contacts.
- Analyzes email marketing metrics to optimize open rates, click-through rates and conversions.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in digital communications, social media management or content marketing.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field.
- Ability to travel a maximum of two trips per year.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of HTML.
- Strategic thinker and problem-solver who contributes original, data-driven ideas to continually improve reach and engagement across brands and platforms.
- Deep and demonstrated expertise in social media platforms, email marketing tools, digital analytics and content management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
- Ability to generate and implement practical solutions that address immediate issues and underlying causes.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with education policy and the non-profit sector.
