About the Opening
The Buckley Institute seeks an experienced self-starter passionate about the mission of the organization to serve as Programs Associate. The Programs Associate will work closely with (and report to) the Director of Programs to plan, execute, and refine the Buckley Institute’s varied and quality programs. Buckley is growing quickly as the campus culture at Yale begins to respond; this position allows a candidate to diversify their experience with programs and events on the leading edge of the free speech movement. The position is full-time in our New Haven, CT office.
Responsibilities
- Assist Director of Programs in researching, developing, and executing programs including, but not limited to, lectures, debates, seminars, conferences, and fellowships that advance the mission of the organization
- Organize and help facilitate recruitment, social, and community building events for the Institute’s growing body of 800+ student fellows, in coordination with the student board
- Manage event logistics including (but not limited to) speaker travel and lodging, catering and restaurant arrangements, event space set up, A/V booking, and registration for large events
- Serve as point of contact for participants, speakers, and vendors as necessary
- Attend all organization events, take pictures and, for certain events, take notes; events take place on average once or twice per week during the semester, typically evenings
- Interact with student attendees and the student board to familiarize with going concerns and promising future leaders
- Work with the Communications team to promote the organization’s events and initiatives and increase engagement through outreach to students, alumni, faculty, organizations, and departments
- Maintain programming-related files, databases, and email lists
- Help administer essay contests and Yale Faculty Prize
- Implement and track program processes, assessments, and metrics
- Stay apprised of ongoing and emergent discourse, events, and research in Buckley’s issue areas
- Occasionally meet with Yale faculty and attend Yale events to learn about campus culture
- Work closely with Communications team to coordinate on related Programs efforts
- Other duties and miscellaneous projects as requested
The projected salary range for this role is $50,000 to $65,000 in addition to competitive benefits including a matching SIMPLE IRA plan, PTO, and health, dental, and vision insurance. Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional work experience; related experience strongly preferred, internships may be considered experience
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, multi-task, and follow through
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, outgoing, sound judgement, and high degree of professionalism
- Responsible, honest, and dependable
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; CRM experience a plus
- Ability to travel out-of-state occasionally (approximately 5%) to assist with programs such as the Institute’s Washington, D.C. Fellowship and Leadership retreats
- Enthusiastic philosophical alignment with and passion for the mission of the Buckley Institute
- A bachelor’s degree
