About the role
The Director of Publications oversees the creation, production, and dissemination of AIER’s public-facing content, including our publishing program of explainers, papers, books, podcasts, and videos, ensuring alignment with our mission to advance classical liberalism and free market economics. This role drives communications outreach and collaborates with leadership and staff to develop strategies, messaging, and tactics that position AIER as a leading voice in the marketplace of ideas. They will also assist the editorial team with content production.
This role reports to the Director of Data and Technology. This role can be executed from AIER’s office in Great Barrington, MA or virtually from within the United States. Virtual candidates will be expected to travel to the office at least quarterly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Publications
- Lead the production process for AIER’s explainers, papers, and book publishing program, coordinating ideation, production, and promotion, and supporting the Research team in maintaining a rigorous peer-review process.
- Ensure all publications meet professional, brand, and quality standards, in collaboration with the President and departmental leadership.
- Oversee the strategy and dissemination of AIER publications (e.g., explainers, papers, books), podcasts, and videos, while supporting the editorial team with content development.
Communications and Message Development
- Ensure publications and communications are accurate, clear, and accessible to a broad everyman audience.
- Enforce consistent graphic standards across all communications to uphold a professional appearance and strengthen brand identity.
- Provide strategic input on framing key issues to align with AIER’s mission and goals.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote publications and increase AIER’s visibility, including targeted campaigns and audience engagement initiatives.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with the editorial and technology teams to manage website content for AIER’s main site and related pages, ensuring alignment with brand standards and organizational goals.
- Partner with the Development team to create compelling fundraising materials, such as donor reports and campaign content, that highlight AIER’s impact.
- Work with Research, External Relations, and Educational Programs teams to amplify their efforts and support organizational objectives.
- Coordinate with event planning staff to integrate publications and messaging into conferences, seminars, and public outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
- 6-10 years of experience managing, editing, or producing public-facing publications, with a preference for expertise in print and digital media and related communications or marketing roles tied to publishing.
- Exceptional writing, editing, speaking, and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding of and commitment to free market principles and classical liberalism.
- Proven ability to expand an organization’s public presence and influence.
- Demonstrated success in leading and collaborating with teams to enhance productivity and foster professional growth.
