About the Role:
The James Madison Institute seeks a full-time development associate to manage the development database and direct mail campaigns while providing support within the fund development department. Candidates for the position of development associate should be able to demonstrate an understanding of public policy from a free-market perspective, with special emphasis on the issues facing the state of Florida. Candidates must be energetic in promoting the goals and views of The James Madison Institute (JMI) with the goal of increasing JMI’s donor support.
The Development Associate will report to the Vice President of Advancement. This is an in-office role based in Tallahassee, FL.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement direct mail campaigns to house files and prospect files
- Coordinate mail activities, including screening and researching prospects
- Plan and implement phone appeal activities
- Manage and maintain the organizational database (Blackbaud-Raiser’s Edge NXT)
- Provide monthly management reports as defined by leadership
- Increase the quantity and quality of donor information
- Develop and implement a baseline stewardship program
- Handle correspondence for VP of Advancement
- Respond to donor requests
- Plan and implement donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship events
- Track donor ratings
- Solicit lower-level donations
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in development or transferable skills
- Proven record of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel, approximately 25%
- History of working with customer relations management systems
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines
- Strong work ethic, highly self-motivated and ability to be a team player
- Willingness to perform all tasks with a positive attitude and contribute to the team by performing miscellaneous tasks as needed/directed
- Bachelor’s degree required
Compensation:
The estimated salary range for the role is $55,000-$60,000, dependent upon the selected applicant’s experience and qualifications, with generous incentives including bonus opportunities. JMI also offers an equally competitive benefits package.
