Position Overview
To advance the mission of TFAS, the development office exists to build and cultivate strong relationships with supporters by partnering with them to achieve their philanthropic interests with the goal of increasing support for TFAS work to educate students in free-market economics, the ideals of liberty, and honorable leadership.
The Director of Development Events and Activities will be responsible for the logistical component of all TFAS events, as well as helping ensure that events align with key metrics, such as attendance goals and funds raised. The Director will be responsible for working strategically to ensure events meet or exceed these metrics, creating measurable outcomes that support the TFAS mission. The Director will also be responsible for other tasks related to furthering and improving the performance of the Development Team.
The ideal Director will be innovative and entrepreneurial. He/she will constantly seek ways to do things better and create exceptional experiences for TFAS donors to increase their connection to and investment in our work.
This role could be a fit for someone with six years of event and development experience, but also for someone with eight plus years into their career who is eager to take on a more significant role on a high impact team.
The Director of Development Events and Activities MUST work from the TFAS Washington, DC office, with the possibility of working remotely 1-2 days a week. Fully remote arrangements will not be considered. This position will require occasional evening/weekend availability as well as approximately 5% of domestic and international travel for TFAS events.
Responsibilities
- Development Events
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for all special events, including galas, conferences, regional donor events, and fundraising dinners.
- Set attendance and fundraising goals for events and develop strategies to meet or exceed those targets. Track and report on the success of events based on these outcomes.
- Identify and secure appropriate venues for events, ensuring they meet the organization’s needs in terms of size, location, and amenities.
- Create and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective planning and spending.
- Lead all aspects of event logistics, including registration, audiovisual setup, and catering. Ensure the smooth execution of events, from set-up to breakdown, including managing staff and vendors on-site.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing, communications, and program staff, to promote events and engage participants.
- Manage relationships with event attendees, including major donors, corporate sponsors and board members.
- Development Activities
- Coordinate with the Chief Development Officer, and other members of the Development Team, to execute non-event related projects such as mailings, donor outreach, presentations and research, in order to reach organizational goals.
Requirements
- Minimum of six years experience with event planning and development related activities.
- Passion for and alignment with the mission of TFAS.
- Demonstrated success in organizing and running events, ensuring deadlines are not missed, with impeccable results.
- Ability to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
- An obsessive desire to win; you are frustrated with complacency.
- Ability to anticipate challenges, take initiative and provide solutions to achieve department and organization objectives.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Some domestic and international travel, around 5% expected.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required and familiarity with Salesforce would be a major plus.
- Knowledge of free-market, conservative, and libertarian grant making organizations helpful.
Salary and Benefits
The projected salary range for this role is $70,000-95,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate. We are willing to explore higher compensation for an exceptional candidate with significant, relevant experience or a lower range for a promising, less experienced candidate.
