About the Role
The Senior Education and Outreach Associate is part of the Education team at the Tax Foundation and develops educational materials and outreach strategies to improve America’s tax and economic literacy through our TaxEDU educational platform.
The mission of this role is to produce and market educational resources for college- and high-school-level students, teachers and professors; educational associations and like-minded nonprofits; policymakers and their staff; taxpayers, and more. The Senior Education and Outreach Associate will work directly with the TaxEDU, Marketing, and Policy teams to develop strategies for growing these audiences through direct marketing and outreach via events, email marketing, social media, and organizational partnerships. They collaborate closely with Tax Foundation’s policy teams to distill complex tax policy concepts for non-expert audiences, and Tax Foundation’s Development team to communicate the mission of TaxEDU to current and prospective donors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify tax literacy gaps and work with policy teams to create digital, print and multimedia materials that educate students, educational organizations, high school and college classrooms, state and federal lawmakers, legislative staff, and the average taxpayer at the appropriate level.
- Collaborate closely with policy teams and external partners to update, maintain, and keep TaxEDU resources timely, accurate, and useful.
- Help identify and cultivate new and existing partnerships that can help improve Tax Foundation and TaxEDU materials, boost their credibility, and expand their reach, including educators and student groups at leading colleges and universities.
- Assist in the design and analysis of polling projects internally and with external partners, such as polling centers and academics.
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of TaxEDU as a platform amongst the academic community and media through direct outreach, email marketing, events, social media, and organizational partnerships.
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in the production and execution of educational events, including but not limited to, Tax Foundation University, State Tax Policy Bootcamp, and TaxEDU webinars.
- Assist in Marketing and Communications operations related to TaxEDU, including but not limited to, social media content and video drafting and production.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience working on tax, economics, or similar policy areas
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience with writing for broad audiences
- An interest in public policy and a belief in the Tax Foundation’s mission
- Ability to travel up to 10%
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience working on tax or economic policy at a think tank, in government, in academia, or as a journalist
- Experience with writing for broad audiences
- Experience with conducting and/or analyzing polls or academic surveys
- Marketing and communication experience
Location and Hours
This is a full-time, exempt position with a standard work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. While we prefer candidates based near Washington, DC, this role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States. Some travel and extended hours will be required for key events, including conferences, our August all-staff retreat, and the November annual gala.
Compensation
The projected salary range for this role is $60,000-$90,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
