Director of Talent Engagement – Moving Picture Institute – Virtual

April 8, 2025

The Moving Picture Institute (MPI) is seeking a director of talent engagement, who will play a vital role in shaping and engaging the organization’s filmmaker network. MPI creates high-impact films designed to entertain, inspire, and educate audiences with captivating stories about human freedom. The director of talent engagement will carry out specific objectives of MPI’s talent incubator, the Rising Filmmaker Program, which includes the Hollywood Career Launch Program (MPI’s internship program). The director will maintain MPI’s alumni database of over 650 filmmakers as well as conduct alumni outreach. This position reports to the senior vice president.

MPI was founded in 2005 on the belief that stories can change the world. MPI’s full-time team of experienced producers and dedicated support staff work with and manage a network of hundreds of filmmakers and contractors annually to advance MPI’s mission by producing MPI Original Films and launching the careers of talented filmmakers. MPI films screen at top festivals and gain wide distribution on popular streamers such as Netflix and Hulu. Recent films include Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, which the New Yorker called “one of the best [ten] films of 2023,” and Motherland, a dystopian sci-fi film currently on the festival circuit.

The director of talent engagement will be expected to travel for filmmaker recruitment and networking events. This is a full-time remote work position with a strong preference for candidates based in Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Nashville, or Washington, DC. The estimated salary for this role is $75–110K, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a filmmaker database (in Swoogo and Salesforce) of MPI’s 650+ alumni
  • Connect with MPI’s alumni, past interns, and fellows at least once annually to check in on their current work, log their career progress on the filmmaker database, and obtain their referrals for other interns and fellows
  • Communicate significant updates and information about filmmakers and interns to the MPI team
  • Implement and oversee a filmmaker communications tool to facilitate engagement and communication within MPI’s filmmaker network
  • Manage and grow the in-person and virtual recruitment and placement of interns at production companies and with partners, fulfilling all intern program administration
  • Conduct entrance interviews and exit interviews with all interns
  • Recruit new internship host companies/supervisors and maintain existing relationships
  • Host networking events, such as MPI Film Club gatherings
  • Manage the MPI partnership with Academy Gold Rising Talent Development Program
  • Produce an in-person Intern Summit, an intern-focused (virtual) Freedom + Film Summer Series, and the Rising Executive Program
  • Represent MPI at conferences, film festivals, and other events

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Deep appreciation for and desire to further the mission of MPI
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional networks
  • Confident and engaging public speaker with strong presentation skills
  • Experience developing and executing high impact programming
  • Exceptional internal communication skills, ensuring clarity and alignment
  • Background in the entertainment industry and/or a relevant degree (film school or MFAs) is a major plus, but a love of film and culture is essential
  • Outstanding time-management skills, superb interpersonal abilities, and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 40% of the time
  • Unwavering integrity in managing confidential information
  • Self-starter who is able to identify opportunities and take initiative
  • Experience with Swoogo is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree

MPI is an equal-opportunity employer.

To Apply

Qualified candidates should submit the following application materials (in order) in one PDF document:

  • Cover letter that includes:
    • An introductory paragraph(s) describing three distinct reasons you are drawn to MPI’s mission and how you came to those beliefs

Wait, You’re a Nonprofit?

Talent Market is a nonprofit. We’ll wait here while that sinks in. We know it’s a crazy concept, but it’s been working like a charm since 2009.

Talent Market’s mission is to promote liberty by providing talent for critical roles within the free-market nonprofit sector.

We provide consulting and recruiting services at no cost to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that clearly and directly focus on advancing the principles of economic freedom, free enterprise, free trade, free speech, property rights, rule of law, and limited regulation. (We do not work with political organizations, organizations with mission statements that do not clearly advance free-market principles, organizations that focus on social issues, or organizations that have a focus outside of the United States. We are not a job board. )

Talent Market believes that the road to prosperity is paved with freedom and that the success of our movement hinges on the talent that will take us there.
