About the Associate Director of Development Position:
The Associate Director of Development plays an important role in advancing the organization’s mission by authoring high-quality content that engages donors and prospects and articulates the foundation’s strategy, goals and impact. As a member of ExcelinEd’s business development team, the Associate Director is primarily focused on writing and timely submitting clear, compelling and polished grant proposals, reports and other documents for family foundations, individuals and corporations describing ExcelinEd’s work to transform education through student-centered policy solutions.
This position is fully remote and can be based virtually anywhere in the U.S.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Authors grant proposals and grant reports for new, existing and prospective donors, including national, state-based and policy-specific funders.
- Creates high-quality content, showcasing the organization’s annual plans, successes and student-centered impact that strategically aligns our work with donor interests and priorities.
- Compiles necessary information for applications and reports through collaboration with policy, advocacy, communications and finance team members; conducts database research and other fact-finding actions to generate proposal and report content.
- Contributes to content development for reports to the Board of Directors, general donor communications and for other purposes.
- Contributes to the monitoring and evaluation of grant-funded programs and projects to ensure compliance, progress on deliverables and maximum efficiency.
- Completes and submits all reports, forms and other documents required by the grant; gathers and submits other company documentation required for grant compliance and/or proposal submissions; ensures timely submission of all grant related compliance components, including budgets and expenditures, where required.
- Manages, tracks and maintains accurate records of grant activities, including timelines for reporting and grant renewals as well as deadlines.
- Maintains donor records, including receipts, deposit copies, invoices and in-kind contributions; drafts donor acknowledgements and maintains information in donor management software.
- Assists with other business development and special projects, as assigned.
Requirements:
- A proven record in grant writing and/or in communications, marketing or creative writing.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience.
- Non-profit experience and working knowledge of education policy preferred.
- High proficiency in Raiser’s Edge NXT, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Collaborator with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Analytical skills to interpret data and inform content.
- Ability to use judgment and manage confidential information with discretion and tact.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Willingness to travel twice a year for an annual staff retreat and national summit.
