OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced public affairs strategist to join our growing communications team. This individual will play a crucial role in enhancing our organization’s visibility and reputation through strategic media relations and effective communication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public relations, with experience in government affairs either in the private business sector or political arena. This role reports to the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing and can be executed virtually within the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Communications Strategist will:
- Develop, execute, and track comprehensive marketing strategies for Cicero content—including, but not limited to, TV, radio, podcasts, digital ads, social media, and email campaigns.
- Provide direct support to organizational leadership in crisis communications.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media personalities.
- Pitch and manage media and outreach opportunities—including editorials, TV/radio bookings, travel logistics, and event planning.
- Write and edit tailored press releases and other outreach materials.
REQUIRED ABILITIES:
- A honed ability to break down complex public policy topics into easy-to-understand language for varying audiences.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, adaptable to varying audiences.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- 3-10+ years of relevant experience with a proven track record of growing earned media exposure.
- Strong connections with influential print, TV, and radio outlets.
- Public relations experience in government affairs in the private business sector or political arena.
- A desire to change the status quo and find innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Strong alignment with and excitement for the mission of Cicero.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Successful candidates must have the flexibility to travel quarterly to in-person staff meetings and additional travel for events as necessary; travel not to exceed 25%.
- While Cicero staff are stationed around the country, the entire communications team is located along the Atlantic seaboard. The successful candidate for this role will be expected to be available during normal business hours in the Eastern time zone.
