The Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships plays a vital role in advancing AIER’s mission through event planning, coalition building, and partnership development. This position is instrumental in expanding AIER’s influence through the Harwood Salons, legislative briefings, and external relations. The ideal candidate must possess an unwavering commitment to AIER’s classical liberal principles and demonstrate a proven track record in event management and relationship building.
The Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for assisting in crafting the strategic vision of AIER’s events and external relations. This includes developing and implementing ideas for expansion and ensuring overall quality of events and partnerships. The Deputy Director will support the Director of Strategic Partnerships and work with AIER staff across departments. The employee should have an entrepreneurial drive, be independent, thrive under pressure, have a strong attention to detail, and have a personal dedication to AIER’s mission.
This position requires travel within the U.S., comprising up to 40% of the role and a flexible schedule including occasional weeknights and weekends. This position can be based virtually anywhere in the U.S., with preference given to candidates based in Washington, DC or another major U.S. Metropolitan Area. Proximity to a major airport is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership, External Relations, and Event Management
- Lead the development and execution of AIER’s Harwood Salons program, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Develop and implement external relations plans, including our legislative briefings (in Washington, D.C. and the state capitals) and media relationship events.
- Create and implement comprehensive business plans with measurable outcomes.
- Oversee all aspects of event planning, from conception to execution, maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
Partnership Development
- Build and nurture strategic partnerships to expand AIER’s reach and impact.
- Represent AIER at internal and external events, serving as an ambassador for the organization.
- Collaborate with coalition partners, staff, and volunteers to advance organizational goals.
- Support development initiatives and fundraising efforts.
- Drive engagement through customized outreach and marketing strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3+ years of relevant experience.

- Proven experience in building and maintaining strategic coalitions.
