About the Opening
The Buckley Institute seeks a self-starter passionate about the mission of the organization to serve as Communications Associate. The Communications Associate will work closely with the Director of Communications in communicating the Buckley Institute’s values, programs, and accomplishments, and help execute successful communications efforts. They will also report to the Director of Communications. This position is full-time in our office in New Haven, CT.
Responsibilities
- Promote the organization’s events and initiatives and increase engagement through outreach to students, alumni, faculty, organizations, and departments
- Attend all organization events and take pictures and, for certain events, take notes; events take place once or twice per week during the semester, usually in the evening
- Assist with and, on occasion lead, event management including set up, registration for large events, and serving as point of contact for participants, speakers, and vendors as necessary
- Serve as a staff liaison and advisor to the student publication, The Buckley Beacon
- Coordinate publication of and programming for The Buckley Beacon
- Spearhead communications and content generation for Buckley’s Yale reform effort, Fight for Yale’s Future
- Drive alumni, student, and faculty support for Fight for Yale’s Future petitions and other initiatives
- Build positive relationships with students to engender stronger connections between student participants and the organization
- Conduct outreach to interested and involved students, including students in Yale’s graduate and professional schools
- Produce engaging and polished content for social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
- Create new content for YouTube and develop strategies for increasing user engagement
- Explore new platforms and media for student outreach and recruitment
- Draft and edit a range of communications including, but not limited to, annual reports, newsletters, surveys, email blasts, and website posts
- Create digital and print marketing materials, including graphics
- Assist Director of Communications in planning, organizing, and editing the Institute’s podcast, Pod and Man at Yale
- Maintain communications-related files, databases, and email lists
- Assist in planning and drafting of segmented newsletters
- Help organize recruitment, social, and community building events for the Institute’s student fellows
- Assist the Research Lead with research projects; develop high quality reports to highlight research findings
- Conduct faculty outreach and relationship building
- Implement, track, and compile communications assessments and metrics
- Propose new efforts to promote the Buckley Institute brand, both within the Yale community and throughout the country
- Manage general email inboxes and respond to inquiries
- Work closely with programs team to coordinate on related communications efforts
- Other duties and miscellaneous projects as requested
The projected salary range for this role is $50,000 to $65,000 in addition to competitive benefits including a matching SIMPLE IRA plan, PTO, and health, dental, and vision insurance. Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional work experience; related experience strongly preferred, internships may be considered experience
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, multi-task, and follow through
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, outgoing, sound judgement, and high degree of professionalism
- Responsible, honest, and dependable
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, mass email platforms, and social media platforms
- Ability to travel out-of-state occasionally (approximately 5%) to assist with programs such as the Institute’s Washington, D.C. Fellowship and leadership retreats
- Enthusiastic philosophical alignment with and passion for the mission of the Buckley Institute
- A bachelor’s degree
