About the Role

The Senior Manager of Foundation Relations is responsible for supporting AIER’s fundraising efforts through foundation and institutional giving and donor communications. Duties include but are not limited to writing grant proposals and reports, composing donor communications, managing foundation and corporate relationships, conducting prospect research, and supporting strategic fundraising initiatives.

The Senior Manager will cultivate and steward AIER’s foundation and corporate partners while strengthening relationships with individual donors through compelling written communications. Responsibilities include developing grant proposals, impact reports, fundraising emails, stewardship pieces, appeal letters, case statements, and other donor-focused communications that demonstrate how gifts to AIER advance research, education, and public engagement.

This role requires the ability to write in a clear and compelling voice. The successful candidate will be diligent, resourceful, and relish the opportunity to communicate with donors about how their support advances AIER’s mission. Working closely across departments, the Senior Manager will identify funding opportunities, translate complex research into persuasive philanthropic messaging, and help expand AIER’s institutional fundraising program.

The Manager must be willing to travel up to 20%, and occasionally to Great Barrington. This full-time position is remote, but location near a mid- to large-sized airport is preferred. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes a full benefits package. This role reports to the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and External Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate supporters by cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and renewing institutional and corporate relationships.
  • Identify and research prospective foundations and corporate funders to expand AIER’s institutional fundraising program.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships to identify funding opportunities for new research, educational programs, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop grant proposals, letters of inquiry, grant reports, renewal requests, and other institutional fundraising materials.
  • Create compelling donor communications, including impact reports, stewardship reports, fundraising emails, appeal letters, case statements, campaign messaging, annual reports, and donor acknowledgments.
  • Partner with colleagues to translate AIER’s research, educational initiatives, and policy work into persuasive funding opportunities and donor communications.
  • Gather stories, narratives, metrics, and outcomes that demonstrate the impact of donor support.
  • Conduct prospect research, prepare donor briefings, and support fundraising campaigns, donor events, and other strategic development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate donor and proposal records in Salesforce, monitor proposal deadlines and reporting requirements, and analyze fundraising activities to identify opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to AIER’s mission and the principles of free markets and classical liberalism.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in foundation relations, institutional fundraising, nonprofit development, or grant writing.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and stewarding foundation and corporate relationships and securing institutional support.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with a firm grasp of grammar, style, and tone.
  • Experience in writing grant proposals, reports, fundraising appeals, impact reports, and other donor communications.
  • Ability to communicate complex research and policy ideas to philanthropic audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, WealthEngine, and donor research tools preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, virtual role based in the United States. The expected salary range for this position is $100,000–$115,000 annually, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Travel and Schedule

This is a virtual role that must be U.S.-based; candidates should reside within reasonable access to a major airport

Up to 20% of domestic travel will be required for donor meetings, conferences, foundation and institutional events, and fundraising activities. Schedule includes occasional evening and weekend events consistent with donor engagement responsibilities.
