About the Role

The Competitive Enterprise Institute seeks a Quantitative Policy Analyst to support CEI’s policy experts across all the domains of policy that CEI examines. This includes working with policy experts to augment their work with quantitative evidence, and reviewing and critiquing data analysis performed internally and externally. Candidates will be expected to keep track of work done at CEI, as well as work that is a significant part of the broader policy discourse. This position is best suited to an individual with two to four years of experience working with data, who is highly engaged with national policy issues and holds a consistent free-market outlook.

This position is based out of CEI’s downtown Washington, D.C. office with the potential to work from home one day a week.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis on CEI issues.
  • Work with policy experts to add quantitative support to their writing to help persuade audiences.
  • Seek opportunities to contribute quantitative arguments across the full range of products CEI generates, across all policy areas and media.
  • Construct clear, easy-to-understand charts and graphs that convey quantitative arguments and influence policy discussions.
  • Review CEI’s work to ensure quantitative arguments are sound.
  • Track major datasets from the Census Bureau, BLS, BEA, and similar sources relevant to policy work, and provide guidance based on them.
  • Assess the quantitative analysis of outside experts.
  • Communicate quantitative approaches and analysis to audiences with a range of expertise.

Qualifications

  • 2-4+ years of experience as a data analyst, or comparable education or training.
  • Experience working with and presenting data to convey a message, and a passion for public policy.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit: as a new role, the Quantitative Policy Analyst will have both the opportunity and the expectation to contribute to many different projects.
  • Strong quantitative, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Compensation

This position has a salary range of $90,000-$130,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
