About the Role
The Quantitative Analyst will work with Reason Foundation policy teams to develop data-driven analyses and data visualizations. The role requires comfort and experience working with challenging data problems and packaging those results in digestible ways for internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate is a data wizard who is resourceful, can tackle large projects independently, enjoys problem-solving, and pays close attention to detail.
This role reports to Jordan Campbell, Managing Director of Government Finance, and can be done virtually anywhere within the U.S. and is part of Reason’s Fellowship Program. This is a full-time, paid position with benefits that lasts one year from your start date. Many fellows have continued working at Reason after completing their fellowship or have gone on to other notable organizations within our network.
Responsibilities
- Work with a variety of data sets, internal and public, across a range of policy issues, to provide useful analysis.
- Take data in both structured and unstructured formats and turn that into rigorous, analytical products that take the shape of publication-ready analyses, data visualization, or internal tools.
- Turn ambiguous policy questions into coherent and valuable insights.
- Collaborate with other analysts to create research products.
- Write regular commentary/blog posts for Reason.org on data insights across a range of policy issues.
- Assist other divisions, as needed, in analytical work.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of experience in quantitative analytics, economics, finance, accounting, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong numeracy, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficient use of Excel, statistical analysis and/or econometrics.
- Working knowledge of R or Python for data analysis, data wrangling, data visualization, and modeling.
- Familiarity with Svelte, JavaScript/TypeScript, or other web-development tools is a plus.
- Comfortable learning unfamiliar policy areas and technical tools quickly.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts is key.

- Curiosity and self-motivation to learn new things and tackle difficult technical problems you may have never dealt with before.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 with flexibility based on experience.
