About the Role

NCLA is seeking a Social Media Manager to lead and expand our presence across major digital platforms. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who understands how ideas move online and can translate complex legal issues into clear, compelling content.

This is an in-person role based in Arlington, VA. This position will report to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage NCLA’s social media presence and platforms including X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and Substack
  • Develop and execute a consistent, high-quality content strategy
  • Translate complex litigation and policy arguments into clear messaging
  • Design and manage paid social campaigns (Google Ads, X Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads)
  • Engage with supporters, critics, journalists, and peer organizations
  • Collaborate with legal and communications teams for accurate messaging
  • Create graphics and social-first content
  • Edit with Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Track trends and relevant news in civil liberties and policy
  • Analyze performance metrics and refine strategy

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing social media for an organization or similar experience preferred; internships and other relevant experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated success with paid ad campaigns across major platforms
  • Strong understanding of social media trends and best practices
  • Ability to simplify complex legal or policy topics
  • Comfortable engaging with public feedback and criticism
  • Familiarity with civil liberties or constitutional law
  • Experience with social media tools (Sprout Social preferred)
  • Editing experience with Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
