About the Role
To advance the mission of The Goldwater Institute, the development office builds and cultivates strong relationships with supporters by partnering with them to achieve their philanthropic interests with the goal of increasing support for Goldwater’s work to empower all Americans to live freer, happier lives.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Donor Relations Manager is responsible for stewarding and cultivating relationships with Goldwater supporters to build a stronger connection between them and the organization. Additionally, the Donor Relations Manager will be responsible for research/prospecting efforts for new donors, as well as helping build Goldwater’s brand identity. Must be willing to travel.
The ideal candidate will be innovative and entrepreneurial. They will seek ways to create exceptional experiences for Goldwater donors to increase their connection to, and investment in, our work. Top candidates will be able to solve problems and develop individualized strategies that connect with the donors’ philanthropic interests.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required; candidates with more extensive experience, including seasoned fundraising professionals, are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with greater experience may be considered for an expanded scope of responsibilities and compensation commensurate with their experience.
This is a full-time, exempt position. This role can be based in-office in Phoenix, AZ or virtual from anywhere within the U.S.
Responsibilities

- Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with a focus on soliciting gifts of $5,000 or more through face-to-face meetings.
- Meet with donors to steward and cultivate their relationship with Goldwater.
- Work closely with the Director of Development, President, and other senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for each donor in the portfolio.
- As appropriate, schedule meetings with prospective donors for the President and senior staff.
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and other materials to utilize during solicitations for major gifts.
- Collaborate with other members of the Goldwater Institute team to ensure that major gift fundraising is integrated with team-wide efforts.
- Be available and willing to perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in development/fundraising, donor research, or a related role. Candidates with more experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Passion for, and alignment with, the mission of The Goldwater Institute.
- Ability to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce quality work products within tight time constraints.
- Experience within major gifts fundraising.
- Ability to anticipate challenges, take initiative and provide solutions.
- Strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- This position requires the ability to travel on a regular basis, up to 30%.
