Events Manager
Foundation for Government Accountability
Virtual
OVERVIEW
The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) is hiring an Events Manager to lead the events where FGA builds relationships with lawmakers, donors, and partners. You’ll shape each event from the first date on the calendar to the final cost report. In this role, you’ll negotiate venues and hotel contracts, build agendas with senior leaders, and run each event on-site from start to finish.
This role is built for someone who loves crafting and producing events from the ground up: the planning, the details, and the payoff of a room that comes together. You’ll own about 20 events per year, from small donor dinners to lawmaker fly-ins of 200-plus attendees, along with policy summits and all-staff meetings. When a flight gets canceled or a speaker drops out the night before, you stay calm, handle the curveball, and fix it before attendees notice.
The ideal candidate brings at least five years running live events end to end, including hotel contract negotiation. Experience with lawmakers or VIPs is a plus. This role is fully remote, with travel two to three times per quarter. You’ll lead planning for every event, but not every event requires you on site.
Compensation
As Events Manager, you’ll sit on the Communications team and report to the Internal Systems Director. FGA offers a competitive salary of $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience and qualifications, along with a benefits package that includes a six percent retirement match, health benefits, and generous paid leave.
CULTURE AND FIT
The people who consistently succeed at FGA are those whose actions and behavior reflect our five Core Values. If you adhere to these values and answer “yes” to each of the following questions, you may be a fit.
1. Candid to Solve: Being willing to have tough conversations in order to solve issues and build trust.
Do you seek out constructive feedback—and provide it to others—to solve issues and build trust with coworkers?
2. Grow or Die: We don’t have a neutral gear; we must consistently challenge ourselves and each other to grow in our talents and skills.
Are you aware of your strengths and weaknesses, and do you seek out complementary skills and growth in order to mitigate your weaknesses?
3. Politically Savvy: Policy doesn’t change in a vacuum, but in a political reality that we must understand and account for.
Do you agree that embracing the realities of politics is necessary to change public policy?
4. Partnership-Oriented: Internal and external relationships are not transactional. That starts with our team members and the perspective that we need the rest of the team to succeed in order to win personally.
Are you comfortable creating your own structure for work, such as setting work hours, your own priorities, and creating clarity and a work plan from a broad goal?
5. Bought in to Win: We’re at FGA because we want to change policy. No one is counting hours or widgets. We are here to get results, and sometimes, that will require going the extra mile or doing a job that isn’t technically ours.
Do you fully support FGA’s mission and believe that lives are improved through work, not welfare, and that free markets create more freedom and opportunity than government control?
The vast majority of those who don’t get hired (or don’t last) at FGA are due to a lack of fit with these values. Be prepared to have very candid conversations about them in our interview process.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Events Manager, you’ll sit on the Communications team and report to the Internal Systems Director. You will play five primary roles:
1. Event Portfolio Owner
- Produce about 20 events per year, many with governors, lawmakers, and VIPs in the room, and keep a two-year events calendar current.
- Source venues and vendors early, run the RFP process, and lock in favorable hotel contracts well ahead of each event.
2. Program and Partnerships Builder
- Set agendas with senior staff and build FGA’s speaker lineup with the development and messaging teams as FGA’s state and federal work grows.
- Prep presenters, build lasting relationships with partners, and work with the marketing and design teams on event websites, emails, and announcements.
3. On-Site Event Producer
- Serve as the on-site lead that senior staff trust to run FGA events from advance day to wrap-up, briefing staff and solving problems before attendees notice.
- Manage the details and run-of-show that make an event work, including staff travel, rooming lists, registration, staging, breakouts, AV, meals, and VIP handling.
4. Event Systems Architect
- Own FGA’s event management platforms, SOPs, and templates, and keep them current so any staff member can find what they need.
- Treat AI like a smart intern: test new tools, hand off recurring event tasks, and teach the team what works.
5. Budget and Operations Steward
- Build and track event budgets, including vendor payments and attendee reimbursements, and close each event on budget with a final cost report.
- Support hiring and internal operations projects as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least five years producing live events end to end, including hotel contract negotiation.
- Experience with lawmakers or VIPs a plus.
- Calm under pressure and focused on solutions.
- Strong communicator with senior leaders, presenters, and partners.
- Comfortable with event software and AI tools. Experience with Cvent, Basecamp, and Ramp a plus.
- Able to travel two to three times per quarter, typically three to four days per trip, with heavier travel during summit seasons.
- Match FGA’s Core Values (described above).
LOCATION
FGA’s headquarters are in Naples, FL, but nearly all our staff work remotely from across the country. We build our systems and culture around clarity, flexibility, and strong communication. Key elements of our environment include:
- Quarterly in-person team meetings at which you’ll build deeper relationships, set clear goals aligned with FGA’s big vision, and brainstorm how to seize new opportunities
- An intensive 90-day orientation to familiarize you with the FGA team, our policies, and how we operate
- Home office setup, including equipment and communication tools you need to hit the ground running
