Position Summary
The Tax Foundation’s Development Operations Associate will be responsible for administrative, event, and project management support of the Development team.
This role reports to the Chief Advancement and Operations Officer and is located in Washington, DC.
Duties and Responsibilities
Event Management
- Oversee logistics for development stakeholder meetings, including various advisory panels and engagement events.
- Tax Prom, Tax Foundation’s annual gala in November that draws approximately 800 attendees.
- Manage the event’s vendors and ensure they meet deadlines
- Coordinate seating, guest requests, and logistics for all corporate sponsors and guests
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create copy for marketing Tax Prom
- Create an email marketing schedule and draft email copy
Accounting and Operations Support
- Ensure all donors are acknowledged correctly, in accordance with applicable regulations and best practices
- Invoice corporate donors and sponsors as directed by the corporate fundraising team
- Assist the Chief Advancement and Operations Officer with logging and tracking gifts for record-keeping and audit purposes, including vendor relationships for DAF and other donation vehicles
- Manage vendor relationships to maintain Tax Foundation’s charitable solicitation status in all states
- Serve as primary point of contact for donation caging and processing service vendor(s)
- Fulfill accounting requests for weekly account reconciliations and annual audit needs
Project and Database Management
- Act as the Development team Project Manager
- Assist the Chief Advancement and Operations Officer in creating best practices and processes for the development department
- Facilitate the planning, execution, and debriefs for development team projects
- Manage the agenda for weekly development meetings
- Track deliverables for development-driven projects across teams, ensuring that other teams are also aware of and responsive to deadlines
- Communicate cross-functionally with other team project managers to define projects, lay out timelines, and execute them
- Serve as a Salesforce database administrator
- In conjunction with the Chief Advancement and Operations Officer, develop processes and strategies for data hygiene
- Ensure Tax Foundation is following regulations and best practices in its database management and usage
- Make changes to the database where practicable to optimize development officer workflows and data collection
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time hybrid position, based in Tax Foundation’s Washington, DC, office.
- Days and hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Tax Foundation staff work remotely on Monday and Friday. Some travel and extended hours may be required.
Travel
Travel may be required occasionally, approximately 5-10%, such as to the annual all-staff offsite, which typically occurs in August.
Minimum Education, Experience or Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development operations, project management, government relations and/or a related field (internships may be considered experience)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and good judgment
- Solution-oriented with the ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Education, Experience or Qualifications
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
- Able to work independently on projects, from conception to completion
- Performs well under pressure
- Handles confidential matters with discretion
- Collaborates effectively across all departments of the organization
- Represents Tax Foundation in a highly professional manner
- Knowledge of Salesforce
- Familiarity with HubSpot
Salary
The salary range for this role is $55,000-$65,000 annually. Tax Foundation offers a suite of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, One Medical membership, and matches 100% of 401K contributions up to 5% of salary.
