About the Role
TFAS seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented Associate Director of Development & Communications to lead the production and editorial execution of our print and digital donor communications. This role serves as a key driver of content strategy and execution, ensuring TFAS materials reflect our mission and inspire our audiences, from donors to media and the public.
This person is a part of the Development & Communications team and will report to the Senior Director of Communications & Development. This is a full-time in-office position in Washington, D.C., with at least 3-4 days in the office per week required.
Responsibilities
Publications + Editorial Execution
- Manage the layout and design of print publications in partnership with designer and print vendors
- Execute editorial calendar and production timelines for all print materials
- Write compelling content for newsletters, annual reports and donor publications
- Serve as copy editor across publications to ensure clarity, consistency and accuracy
- Manage video production in coordination with vendors or internal teams
Direct Mail Production Coordination and Fundraising Support
- Coordinate content, layout and audiences for print mailings, including fundraising and cultivation campaigns
- Liaise with print shop and mailing vendors to ensure timely, high-quality delivery
- Coordinate with the Chief Development & Marketing Officer, the Senior Director of Communications and Development, and other members of the Development Team to execute projects such as mailings, donor outreach, presentations and research
- Work with Major Gift Officers on mailings, outreach and events
Qualifications
Required
- 5-7 years of experience in marketing, communications, development or related fields
- Strong understanding of TFAS’s mission and the ideas of liberty and free-market economics
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and drive projects to completion
- Highly organized, detail-oriented copy editor
- Skilled communicator with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Professional presence with the ability to represent TFAS to external partners and donors
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, manage competing priorities and maintain high-quality results
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools
Preferred
- An analytical thinker or someone eager to develop analytical reporting skills
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Familiarity with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and email marketing platforms (Hubspot)
- Knowledge of print production processes and experience working with designers, printers, or mail houses
- Experience supporting nonprofit development efforts or managing fundraising communications
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary range of $60-80K, depending on experience and skills. TFAS offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
