Development Director – Idaho Freedom Foundation – Boise, ID

June 19, 2025

About the Organization

The Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Boise, Idaho. Founded in 2009, our mission is to advance individual liberty, free-market principles, and limited government through research, education, and advocacy. We believe that Idaho can be a national model for conservative governance, and we work to make that vision a reality by holding lawmakers accountable, engaging citizens, and equipping leaders with the tools to defend freedom.

Our team is passionate, principled, and focused on delivering bold, transformational change—not just incremental reform. Whether through exposing government waste, promoting school choice, or advancing tax and regulatory reform, IFF remains a leading voice for liberty in the Gem State.

About the Role

IFF is seeking a dynamic and strategic Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts and expand our base of committed supporters. In this role, you’ll shape and execute strategies that drive high-impact donor engagement, working alongside a passionate team dedicated to defending liberty and advancing limited government in Idaho.

This role reports to the Vice President and also works closely with the President. This is a full-time, on-site position based in beautiful downtown Boise, offering a flexible schedule, competitive compensation, and a full benefits package—including medical coverage and a 401(k) plan. The Director of Development will receive support for continued professional development through training, travel, and networking opportunities. This is a highly collaborative and mission-driven environment where your contributions will make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Relations & Fundraising Strategy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, with emphasis on high-net-worth individuals.
  • Develop and implement a donor cultivation and solicitation calendar to increase engagement and giving.
  • Create and manage daily and weekly call lists for the President to maximize high-yield donor outreach.
  • Work with the President to craft compelling high-dollar fundraising pitches and planned giving appeals.

Communications & Creative Development

  • Write and edit a variety of fundraising materials including housemail, donor emails, prospecting copy, grant proposals, and stewardship letters.
  • Lead the development and execution of the annual end-of-year fundraising campaign and donor annual report.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and list brokers to manage direct mail and prospecting campaigns.

Event Planning & Execution

  • Plan and execute donor events, including intimate gatherings and large-scale fundraisers.
  • Use donor data to identify potential high-dollar attendees by region or interest area.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Run fundraising performance and donor activity reports using our donor database (Virtuous).
  • Maintain donor records, track giving trends, and manage campaign/mailing codes for segmentation and performance tracking.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on key metrics, new donor acquisition, and campaign outcomes.

Grants Management

  • Write and submit grant proposals and reports to foundation partners.
  • Track grant deadlines and collaborate with policy and communications teams to develop compelling cases for support.

Internal Collaboration

  • Lead weekly development team check-ins with the President to align on priorities and strategies.
  • Coordinate closely with communications, policy, and admin teams to ensure integrated development efforts.

Additional Duties

  • Support donor inquiries and stewardship communications.
  • Assist with ad-hoc editing and internal writing projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President and Office Manager on scheduling donor travel and follow-up tracking.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development
  • Ability to travel 30-40%
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong sense of follow-through
  • Experience with CRM tools (Virtuous preferred) and fundraising analytics
  • Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and strong problem-solving skills
  • Alignment with and passion for the mission and values of the Idaho Freedom Foundation
