About the Role

UMLC is seeking to hire one to two full-time attorneys! Successful candidates ideally possess 3+ years of complex civil litigation experience and the ability to manage a sophisticated and fast-moving docket, and will report directly to the Managing Attorney. The organization places a premium on a positive attitude and high energy.

While UMLC’s preference is for candidates based in Minnetonka, MN, the organization is open to considering highly experienced candidates located anywhere in the United States who can work virtually. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Litigate federal and state cases in court
  • Undertake depositions, hearings, and trials
  • Conduct legal and factual research
  • Provide case input and evaluation
  • Develop cases
  • Conduct investigations
  • Prepare court pleadings and amicus briefs
  • Interact with clients, co-counsel, community, and media
  • Outreach to other liberty-minded law groups to partner and co-venture cases
  • Help manage case docket and evaluate impact

Qualifications

  • J.D., preferably from a Top 20 law school
  • Preferences given to candidates with federal clerkship experience
  • 3+ years of complex civil litigation experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing Upper Midwest Law Center’s mission of protecting individual rights and enforcing limits on government power through litigation
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment and actively contribute to a culture of innovation and initiative
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to the organizations mission and litigation approach
