About the Role

The Marketing Assistant supports the execution of Tax Foundation’s core digital marketing efforts across our website, email, social media, ads, and events.

Day-to-day responsibilities include publishing and optimizing website content, producing marketing materials, supporting campaigns and performance reporting, and translating our tax policy research into clear, compelling copy for email, social media, and ads.

This full-time, entry-level position is ideal for someone passionate about digital marketing, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to Tax Foundation’s mission of leading the tax reform debate toward smarter, simpler policy.

The Marketing Assistant reports to the Vice President of Marketing and can work in a hybrid capacity from our Washington, DC, office or remotely from elsewhere in the US. The anticipated start date for this position is early January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the marketing team’s implementation and monitoring of digital marketing campaigns across social media, email, ads, and our website
  • Publish and optimize website content on TaxFoundation.org, including blog posts, publications, and data releases, following SEO best practices
  • Draft, schedule, and publish social media content on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and Instagram for an audience of more than 160,000 followers
  • Help write and format weekly email newsletters sent to more than 85,000 subscribers and report on key email metrics
  • Assist with building and reporting on digital ad campaigns across Meta and Google
  • Support event promotion by creating marketing materials, managing registration platforms, and assisting with attendee communications
  • Create social media and website graphics using tools such as Canva
  • Collect and report on Google Analytics and platform dashboards to support internal and external reporting and track campaign trends
  • Provide administrative and project support across marketing products and programs as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, political science, economics, or a related field
  • Relevant coursework, training, or internship in marketing; no prior full-time experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt tone for different audiences
  • Excellent organization and time management across multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with WordPress or a similar CMS, along with a basic understanding of SEO principles
  • Familiarity with email/CRM platforms such as HubSpot or Mailchimp
  • Experience managing social media for a company or organization
  • Graphic design skills in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working knowledge of analytics and ad platforms such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Ads, or Meta Ads
  • Interest in public policy or economics

Location and Hours

This is a full-time position. Days and hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, with some flexibility in terms of start/end times. The position is based in Tax Foundation’s Washington, DC, office, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays, or in a virtual office for employees not located in the Greater Washington, DC, area. This position has occasional travel, about twice a year, for special events and the all-staff annual offsite.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Compensation

The projected salary range for this role is $46,000–$50,000. This salary is contingent upon the specific experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
