About the Role:

The Senior Foundation Relations Manager oversees the Institute’s grant-seeking program, identifying prospective foundations, drafting narrative proposals, and managing grants.  They work closely with all associates to stay informed about the Institute’s strategic objectives to better identify and recruit appropriate grant funding.

The Manager works closely with senior staff, policy analysts, and the legal staff to stay informed about the Institute’s strategic objectives, identify and recruit appropriate grand funding, and develop grant proposals that reflect the Institute’s strategic priorities and scope of work.

This role works closely with other development staff to fulfill overall fundraising needs for the Institute, assists with donor events, and meets with the Institute’s donors and supporters.  This role is responsible for meeting or exceeding the Institute’s annual foundation budget.

The Senior Foundation Relations Manager reports directly to the Director of Development. This is a full-time, exempt position that can be based in Phoenix, AZ or from a virtual office anywhere in the US.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill new grant proposals to foundations that previously have provided grants to the Institute.
  • Identify prospective foundations and fulfill grant proposals to grow Institute support.
  • Meet all deadlines for grant proposals, grant reporting, and other communication requirements.
  • Stay informed about the Institute’s strategic objectives and ongoing scope of work to identify and recruit appropriate grant funding.
  • Draft and receive approval for correspondence and other writing activities as assigned.
  • Appropriately manage general inquiry email account(s).
  • Expressed interest in speaking with donors and potential supporters about the Institute’s mission and philosophy.
  • Meet or exceed annual budget for foundation grant fundraising.
  • Develop annual strategy plan for foundation grant fundraising.
  • Assist with Institute functions and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies:

  • 2+ years of experience in development, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Exceptional business and explanatory writing skills.
  • Basic math and budget-tracking skills.
  • Expressed knowledge of public policy issues at a national and state level.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%, with increased travel for remote candidates.
  • Expressed knowledge of the Institute’s overall mission and philosophy.
  • Demonstrated skills in conducting background research of organizations and individuals.
  • Demonstrated skills in time management, which includes the identification, tracking, and meeting of deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt and fulfill additional or unanticipated assignments.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $80,000-120,000, depending on skills and experience.
