Legal Talent Pipeline Manager
Pacific Legal Foundation
Virtual

You: An entrepreneurial builder – you love building relationships, programs, and talent pools. You want to one day watch a litigator fight for liberty and freedom at the Supreme Court and know that you played an integral role in helping them get there. You are excited at the prospect of building relationships with people and organizations throughout the litigation journey so that you can develop a legal talent pool for one of the nation’s top advocates for individual rights. You also know that developing a talent pipeline is a long play, beginning as early as college and stretching all the way to law firm partners. From managing our student programming and alumni efforts to building relationships with law schools and judges, you are confident you can level up our litigation team in the long-term.
Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There is a lot of government overreach out there, and it is backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other’s backs, and are confident in and passionate for the cause—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF.
Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the United States Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 20 cases litigated at the Court. We also have more than a hundred active cases across the nation.
We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does “next-generation” mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we are not interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.
Here is what you get to do in this role:
In this newly created role, you will drive a strategy focused on bolstering both the quality and supply of constitutional litigators aligned with our philosophical beliefs. To accomplish this, you will:
- Take a holistic view of talent identification and development, potentially beginning as early as undergraduate school, extending through engaging with our program alumni and experienced attorneys throughout the industry.
- Work alongside the talent acquisition team to identify, engage, and interview experienced attorneys, developing a ready network of aligned candidates for both immediate and long-term hiring needs.
- Oversee our summer clerk and year-long fellowship programs and augment them to ensure they are supporting our efforts to develop a pipeline for legal talent.
- Create and own relationships with law school career centers, judges, for-profit law firms and any other relevant organizations or people who can assist us in either identifying talent or offering positions to our talent.
- Work with PLF attorneys to place them at speaking opportunities in law schools across the country to bring greater awareness to PLF’s work and our educational programming.
- Develop an alumni program and craft the strategy for keeping our alumni engaged with our work and open positions.
This role is ideal for someone who has:
- 5+ years of experience in the fields of legal talent acquisition, external affairs, and/or program management
- A strong commitment to the principles of liberty and constitutional law
- Ability to travel, up to 20%
- Managed a program for developing talent, either in the legal space or otherwise.
- Taken customer service to the next level, not only responding to needs, but anticipating them before they arise.
- Proven their ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally.
- Dedication to elevating the next generation of constitutional litigators.
- An ability to prioritize and timeline out various aspects of their work effectively.
