MediaPedia is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Americans to uncover the truth behind the headlines by using transparency as a tool to reveal media bias. With a data-driven analysis of news bias, MediaPedia provides clear insights into the credibility and biases of journalists, media organizations, and content. We expose the lens through which journalists are covering the most important issues of our time. Launched in January 2025, MediaPedia’s non-partisan approach dismantles hidden agendas and equips users with the tools to navigate today’s complex media landscape with clarity and confidence.

Position Summary

MediaPedia seeks a strategic and mission-aligned Vice President of Development to lead our growing fundraising and donor engagement operations.

The Vice President of Development is a senior leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that advances MediaPedia’s mission and long-term sustainability. This role oversees all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, foundation and corporate relations, annual giving, donor stewardship, and campaign planning.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, experienced relationship-builder, and results-driven professional passionate about advancing the mission of the organization. It’s an exciting opportunity to come in on the ground floor of a transformative project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy & Execution
    • Develop and lead a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve annual revenue goals
    • Oversee a diversified funding portfolio including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, individual giving, and special campaigns
    • Identify and cultivate new donor prospects
  • Major Gifts & Donor Relations
    • Develop and manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects
    • Implement individualized cultivation and stewardship strategies
    • Work closely with leadership and board members to support high-level donor engagement
    • Conduct outreach to foundations; ability to write grant proposals is preferred but not required
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration
    • Align fundraising initiatives with organizational goals
    • Provide regular reports to the CEO and board on progress toward fundraising targets
    • Partner with the board of directors to enhance their involvement in fundraising

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with a track record of success
  • Passion for working with a brand new organization and building something from the ground up
  • Proven ability to close major gifts and manage donor relationships
  • Strong grant writing and institutional fundraising experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to plan and prioritize
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Comfort engaging with high-level stakeholders and donors
  • Passion for the organization’s mission and impact
  • Experience with donor databases and fundraising software (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required; being a life-long learner is a requirement
  • Willingness and ability to travel 30-35% of the time.

A background in media, public relations, and/or fascination with the news world will be an asset to any candidate.

Salary

The projected annual salary range is $90,000-$150,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate. Additional performance-based compensation may be available at the discretion of leadership.
