Founded in 2014, the Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to researching, developing, and communicating effective free-market public policies for West Virginia.
Position Overview
The Digital Communications Manager will report to the President and play a vital role in amplifying Cardinal Institute’s voice and impact. This position supports the organization’s strategic messaging, content creation, digital marketing, and media outreach efforts. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, detail-oriented, creative thinker, and committed to advancing the principles of limited government and individual freedom.
This is a full-time, virtual role that can be based anywhere within West Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in the development and execution of Cardinal’s communications strategy
- Write and edit compelling content for website articles, newsletters, and email marketing
- Create engaging, educational, and informative content for the Cardinal Institute’s social media channels (X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
- Manage and grow social media channels
- Help maintain and update the website with fresh and engaging content
- Collaborate with policy and development teams to support public engagement campaigns
- Track and report communications metrics for social media and email marketing performance
- Assist with event promotion, media outreach, graphic design, and video production as needed
- Build and deepen relationships with state, regional, and national media
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in communications, digital media, or a related role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with email marketing software (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
- Graphic design and video editing skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Commitment to the values of individual liberty, free enterprise, and limited government
- Collaborative, self-starter, and strong attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field; or equivalent experience
- Ability to travel: Less than 5%
