The Children’s Scholarship Fund (CSF) is a national non-profit organization based in New York City that works to advance educational freedom for all children. For more than 25 years, CSF has provided children of low-income families with tuition assistance in grades K-8, while working to expand educational opportunities through education savings account programs and education tax credit programs at the state and national level. CSF relies on financial support from generous individuals, corporations, and foundations nationwide to fund our scholarships and operations. We are seeking a Development Assistant to join our NYC-based team who shares our passion for empowering all parents to choose how best to meet their children’s education needs.
About the Role:
The Development Assistant will work full-time, in-person, at our Midtown Manhattan office, joining a small, passionate, creative, and talented team operating in an office culture characterized by high standards and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate for this position is philosophically committed to ensuring that all parents have the ability to choose how best to educate their children and is a focused, detail-oriented, motivated, and dynamic individual with excellent computer, office, and communication skills and a strong work ethic. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Strategic Planning and Development and the Chief Financial Officer.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Working with the Donor Engagement Coordinator to maintain our donor database. Perform data and gift entry in Raiser’s Edge (RE), follow up on returned mail and update address/contact information in RE as needed, run National Change of Address updates regularly, run queries and reports as needed, and ensure all information and records are properly entered in RE, retained and maintained.
- Maintaining donor files and internal systems to track, monitor and report on all aspects of fundraising operations in accordance with CSF’s records retention policy; convert paper to electronic files.
- Working with the Donor Engagement Coordinator, pull and circulate updated fundraising numbers weekly, monitoring gifts received and pledges made, as well as progress against our goals.
- Processing and mailing donor acknowledgement letters each week.
- Creating and circulating the donor thank you chart each week and confirming notes are sent.
- Assisting with sending donor communications and mailings, including but not limited to appeal letters, correspondence, acknowledgements, meeting requests, donor packets, prospect research, and foundation reports.
- Assisting in preparing and managing development budgets each year, and coordinating annual renewals of subscriptions and other fundraising tools.
- Processing all donations, and preparing and making bank deposits and maintaining proper records.
- Assisting VP of Strategic Planning & Development and Donor Engagement Coordinator with all events and meeting prep; maintain conference room calendar.
- Maintaining updated packets of information for development meetings and to send new donors.
- Assisting CSF’s President, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Development, Director of Communications, and Chief Financial Officer with general day-to-day operations, including scheduling, travel, mailings, filing and administrative matters.
- Assisting in the processing of vendor invoices.
- Ordering and maintaining office stationery and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree from a 4-year accredited college or university
- 3 months or more of professional office experience preferred
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; Photoshop and InDesign a plus
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects with close attention to detail
- High level of productivity with demonstrated follow-through and success in managing multiple ongoing projects
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Strong desire to produce results; conviction that fundraising is critical to mission fulfillment
- Proactive problem solver and a self-starter with the ability to work individually and on a team
- Flexibility to pitch in and help on special projects as needed
- Note that this is NOT a remote position.
Compensation:
The projected salary range for this role is $50,000-$55,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
