About the Position:
Center of the American Experiment is Minnesota’s strongest voice in favor of education reform. We are hiring a full-time education policy fellow to assist our team in researching education-related issues and advocating for school reform, including but not limited to school choice.
The position will actively support other members of the education policy team by researching, writing opinion editorials, news articles on American Experiment’s website, and policy reports, as well as spearheading projects and campaigns.
Applicants will ideally have experience working in education policy and strong research, writing, and data analysis skills. The Education Policy Fellow will work from the Center’s office in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Responsibilities:
- Research relating to education policy issues
- Data analysis regarding educational achievement, spending, and other matters relating to education policy
- Author long-form research papers on education policy issues
- Write approximately three to four posts per week on education issues at AmericanExperiment.org
- Write op-eds for newspapers and other media outlets
- Participate in public events sponsored by American Experiment, and deliver presentations at events sponsored by third parties.
- Appear as a guest on radio and television programs
- Testify before legislative committees in Minnesota, North Dakota and other states
- Participate in American Experiment’s social media and other outreach efforts, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, the American Experiment Podcast, etc.
- Generally assist more senior members of the education team
Desired Skills and Expertise:
- 0-5 years of experience working in education policy
- Strong research, writing, data analysis and oral communication skills
- Competence with basic software, e.g. Microsoft Excel
- A background in public policy or education
- Public speaking skills
