About the Role

The James Madison Institute seeks a full-time coalitions manager to support efforts within the George C. Gibbs Center for Economic Prosperity, the J. Stanley Marshall Center for Education Freedom and the Center for Technology and Innovation. Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate an understanding of public policy from a free-market perspective, with special emphasis on issues facing the state of Florida. Candidates must be energetic in promoting the goals and views of The James Madison Institute with a goal of building and maintaining strategic alliances with organizations, individuals, and stakeholder groups that share our values of less government, free markets, and individual freedoms.

The Coalitions Manager will report to the Director of the George Gibbs Center for Economic Prosperity. This is an in-office role based in Tallahassee, FL, however, exceptional candidates may be considered for Florida-based remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Coalition Building: Develop and manage strategic coalitions with like-minded organizations, business leaders, and stakeholders who share JMI’s vision of less government, free markets, and individual freedom. Cultivate and maintain relationships to strengthen collaboration and align efforts with JMI’s priorities.
  • Grassroots Mobilization and Advocacy: Lead grassroots mobilization efforts to support JMI’s policy priorities, including designing and implementing outreach, digital strategies, and community engagement campaigns. Track and report campaign outcomes to leadership.
  • Policy Identification and Analysis: Stay informed on emerging policy issues and legislative developments that align with JMI’s mission. Work with Center directors, the policy team, and stakeholders to identify key policy opportunities and geographic areas for coalition activity.
  • Monetization and Financial Support: Identify and implement opportunities to generate financial support through coalition partnerships, sponsorships, and donor engagement. Collaborate with the development team to integrate fundraising strategies into coalition activities.
  • Communications and Public Relations: Partner with the communications team to promote coalition efforts, research, and grassroots campaigns. Representing JMI in coalition meetings, public forums, and media outreach to build a strong public presence.
  • Reporting and Strategy Development: Provide regular reports on coalition, grassroots, and fundraising activities. Collaborate with colleagues to refine and expand JMI’s influence and impact.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coalition building, grassroots advocacy, or public policy-related work
  • Proven record of successfully building and maintaining coalitions with diverse stakeholders
  • Background in a wide array of policy issues related to free markets, limited government, and individual freedoms.
  • Experience working with political, nonprofit, or advocacy organizations, and a solid understanding of the legislative and political process
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong relationship-building skills
  • Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities for coalition-building and policy engagement.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to craft compelling and persuasive communication materials for multiple audiences.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team in a result-oriented environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public affairs or a related field.
  • Ability to travel (~30%).

Compensation:

The estimated salary range for the role is $65,000-$70,000, dependent upon the selected applicant’s experience and qualifications, with generous incentives including bonus opportunities. JMI also offer an equally competitive benefits package.
