About the Role

Libertas Institute is seeking a motivated person to oversee its technology and innovation research portfolio to increase its impact in Utah and across the country.

The Tech & Innovation Policy Analyst will report to the Director of Policy. While the ideal candidate will work from the Lehi, Utah office at least two days per week, the position also offers the flexibility to be performed virtually from anywhere within Utah.

You will be responsible for:

  • Expanding Libertas’s technology and free enterprise policy research in the following areas: permissionless innovation, the Future of the Workforce, emerging technologies and more.
  • Conducting in-depth research to produce policy briefs, whitepapers, and legislative summaries.
  • Following and compiling outside research for use in op-eds, videos, one-pagers, press releases, and interviews that inform and persuade.
  • Supporting outreach efforts to communicate Libertas’s policy portfolio to other groups and partners.

You will bring to the role your:

  • 2–3+ years’ experience in policy research or related work, such as practicing/studying technology law. Internships count as experience.
  • Exceptional ability to cultivate deep, trust-based relationships with legislators, policymakers, and advocacy partners.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; able to persuasively advocate in diverse political contexts.
  • Self-starter who thrives in dynamic, lean environments and creates opportunities where none exist.
  • Deep belief in individual liberty and ability to collaborate respectfully across ideological differences
  • Ability to travel occasionally to conferences and policy events, up to 15%.

What Success Looks Like in this Role:

90 days:

  • Establish and begin building a following on social media (including video) and other outlets as a leading voice on tech and innovation, portable benefits, and regulatory sandboxes in Utah and across the country
  • Understand all aspects of our core tech and innovation policies: history, growth roadmap, impact, vision, etc.
  • Publish articles regularly on our site
  • Integrate with your fellow Libertas Institute team members, local partners and stakeholders here in Utah and across the country

6 months:

  • Publish a policy brief
  • Begin regularly publishing op-eds in critical outlets in Utah and around the country
  • Begin offering policy solutions that can be advocated in Utah (and eventually around the country)

1 Year:

  • Publish an in-depth data/research paper in an academic journal
  • Help our government affairs team pass several reforms in Utah and dozens of pieces of legislation around the country
