January 13, 2021

Philanthropy roundtableOrganization: The Philanthropy Roundtable is a well-established organization in the philanthropic sector, serving as resource for hundreds of donors and foundation leaders. Its mission is to foster excellence in philanthropy, protect philanthropic freedom, and help donors advance liberty, opportunity, and personal responsibility.

With this goal in mind, the organization will need to expand its staff with top talent and cultivate a vibrant, entrepreneurial, and fun culture amongst our staff based on our organizational values.

Since 1991, The Philanthropy Roundtable has served individual philanthropists and foundations that are refining their philanthropic strategies to maximize the impact of their resources, as well as emerging donors and entrepreneurs who are developing their philanthropic plans. The Roundtable is the leading organization in the United States focused on promoting and defending the power of private giving and the means to create wealth to make charitable giving possible.

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Vice President of Operations and Finance, the Director of Talent Management is the primary steward of the organization’s most prized asset: its talent. The Director will also be responsible for creating and implementing the best policies that attract and retain talent. Among the responsibilities for this position will be fostering a vibrant organizational culture, in conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team, built upon the organization’s values: mission-driven, courageous, entrepreneurial, results-oriented, and pursuing excellence. The director will also focus on creating a talent pipeline, including building and running an internship program as a gateway for identifying young professionals. Finally, the Director will also execute regular human resource tasks, though this role should not be construed as a typical “HR” job.

The ideal candidate will be based in the Washington, D.C. area and work from The Roundtable’s office; we will also consider exceptional candidates based in other locations for virtual employment.

Job Duties: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cultivate and foster a vibrant culture, with guidance from the Senior Leadership Team, that encourages creative ideas, hard work, and having fun while pursuing our mission and goals
  • Recruit top talent to the organization through a variety of channels that ensure staff members are aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, guiding principles, and goals
  • Overhaul and regularly update the existing employee handbook to build a positive employee culture that retains top talent and creates clear paths for advancement and success within the organization
  • Oversee processes related to staff joining or leaving the organization including onboarding, orientation, exit interviews, or termination meetings
  • Serve as a resource for vital information needed to help supervisors think about talent strategy and talent improvement
  • Create and administer a robust internship program
  • Complete routine tasks such as payroll, SEP distributions, and employee benefits
  • Manage relationships with HR vendors such as insurance broker and employment attorney
  • Run open enrollment for health insurance each year
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies as well as state and federal laws related to human resources
  • Supervise interns (this position will not have other direct reports for the near future)

Requirements:

  • Five or more years of professional experience in a role involving project management and a keen eye for culture (whether that be in communications, development, policy, operations, training, education, etc.)
  • Three or more years of experience managing staff
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Must endorse the guiding principles, mission, and vision of the Roundtable
  • Demonstrable experience in recruiting and retaining top talent at a non-profit organization
  • Successful track record of handling delicate, sensitive, and confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in mediation
  • High standard of honesty and strong ethical standards
  • Exceptionally organized with an ability to manage the details of multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Versatility to be both a self-starter who takes initiative and a collaborative team player
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Teams preferred

Travel: Less than 5 percent of time. All travel will be domestic.
