Donor Stewardship Coordinator – Pacific Legal Foundation – Arlington, VA or Palm Beach Gardens, FL

April 6, 2022

Pacific legal foundationYou: A confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills who will be a critical link between our supporters and the fundraising team. Your role is to provide our donors with a “wow” experience to help steward and strengthen donor relationships.

Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There’s a lot of government overreach out there, and it’s backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other’s backs, and are confident in and passionate for the cause—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF.

Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the United States Supreme Court, with 14 victories out of 16 cases litigated at the Court. We also have more than a hundred active cases across the nation.

We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does “next-generation” mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we aren’t interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.

Here’s what you get to do in this role:
Not saying thanks could be the #1 reason why donors stop giving. In this role, you’ll develop and implement a comprehensive process to acknowledge and steward PLF’s contributors in order to strengthen donor retention and generate increased support for PLF.

For many supporters, you will be the first person they speak with at PLF. You will be answering their questions, resolving their donation issues, and thanking them for their support.

Your commitment to donor stewardship will help lay the foundation for a supporter’s long-term relationship with PLF.

This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to PLF’s Director of Annual Giving. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, this position will need to work from either our Arlington, VA or Palm Beach Gardens, FL offices.

Getting down to brass tacks, your specific job duties will likely include:

  • Donation and Stewardship Management—Develop and implement a comprehensive process for acknowledgment and stewardship of contributions, ensuring a top-notch donor experience while adhering to the highest standards of accuracy and timeliness. This includes coordinating with Development staff on follow-up and personalization opportunities
  • Customer Service Management—Develop and manage a process for handling donor inquiries, issues, and stewardship in accordance with the highest levels of customer service. Inspire a donor-first culture within Development and across the organization, ensuring that PLF consistently delivers a “wow” experience to donors
  • Prospect Research and Segmentation Management—Oversee the strategic use of prospect research, analytics data, and segmentation to maximize donor retention and upgrades
  • Donor Record Management—Maintain accurate, updated donor records in our Development database. Continually review and recommend improvements to PLF’s processes to ensure the optimal use of data to provide outstanding cultivation and stewardship to donors

This role is ideal for someone with:

  • 1-2 years of experience in fundraising or sales, preferably in customer relations; relevant internships will be considered experience
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and unshakeable commitment to accuracy in data maintenance
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Proficiency with technology, including database management skills. Experience in Raiser’s Edge is preferred
  • Proven ability to build an easy rapport and interact well with others at all levels, both externally and internally
  • Passion for the ideas of freedom and individual liberty will be crucial in communicating with PLF supporters
  • Interest in growing with PLF over time
