November 21, 2019

About the Organization

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, established in 1968, is a nonprofit, charitable organization. More information about the Foundation’s work can be found at www.nrtw.org.

About the Role

The National Right to Work Foundation Legal Department has an opening for an attorney who would litigate in federal and state courts and before labor relations agencies for workers challenging compulsory unionism arrangements, such as forced union membership or fee requirements and monopoly union representation. The attorney will report to the Foundation’s Vice President & Legal Director and work at the Foundation’s headquarters in Springfield, VA, just outside of Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Advising workers who request information about their legal rights concerning compulsory unionism arrangements, including monopoly representation, and evaluating whether their situations call for litigation
  • Legal research on issues related to compulsory unionism, including analysis of proposed legislation’s potential effects on workers’ rights, or procedural issues that arise in cases
  • Handling cases for workers in federal and state courts and before labor relations agencies, such as the National Labor Relations Board, involving issues of compulsory unionism, often working with other Staff Attorneys
  • Traveling when necessary for such things as discovery and hearings in filed cases

Requirements

  • Admission to practice in at least one state or the District of Columbia
  • 0-3 years of experience (fellowships and clerkships may be considered experience)
  • Litigation experience, particularly in cases filed with the National Labor Relations Board, is desirable but not required
  • An excellent law school record
  • Law review experience is preferred
  • Strong commitment to individual freedom and free enterprise is necessary
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not a prerequisite

Application Instructions

Qualified candidates should submit the following application materials in one PDF document:

  • Résumé
  • Cover letter detailing your salary requirement and your interest in the mission of the Foundation
  • One legal writing sample
  • Three professional references, including their relationship to you and an email and phone number to reach each
  • Transcripts of law school and college grades

Applications should be submitted to Talent Market via this link: talentmarket.org/apply-for-your-dream-job/
