About the Role
As a crucial member of the development team, the Director of Grants acts as the liaison between the organization and grantmakers. Responsible for the lifecycle of corporate and foundation giving, the Director of Grants will be expected to work with the policy and journalism divisions to renew existing grants and identify new potential funders. He/she will produce proposals and reports, meet with funders and internal divisions, and be responsible for ensuring grant requirements are met.
This is an opportunity for a pro-liberty, entrepreneurial candidate with excellent communication, relationship-building, fundraising, and project management skills. The ideal candidate has 3 or more years of fundraising experience, a solid understanding of the grant cycle, and is a creative problem solver who can position Reason to succeed financially and strategically.
As a member of the development team, this position will report to the VP for Advancement and work with members of Reason Foundation’s policy and journalism teams. This is a full-time position that can be done in-office in Reason Foundation’s Washington, D.C. headquarters or in a virtual office.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors
- Identify and cultivate new corporate and foundation donors
- Maintain a grant calendar for corporations and foundations
- Secure gifts of general support, program support, and sponsorships from corporations and foundations
- Proposal and report writing
- Maintain a history of interactions and transactions in Salesforce
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide logistical support and build relationships with donors at Reason Foundation events
- Contribute to strategy, planning, and execution for the development team
Qualifications
- 3+ yrs of experience fundraising with corporations, trade associations, individuals, or foundations
- Understanding of the grant cycle
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to independently produce proposals and reports
- Exceptional relationship-building skills
- Entrepreneurial, goal-oriented, team player, strong work ethic, and flexible
- Strong understanding of and desire to support Reason Foundation’s vision and mission
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects effectively and in a timely manner
- Proficient knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM system
- Ability to travel up to 50% of time (less if based in Washington, D.C.)
