About the Role

The James Madison Institute seeks a full-time Communications Coordinator to manage the organization’s email marketing, website, and brand publications. Candidates for the position of communications coordinator should be able to demonstrate an understanding of public policy from a free-market perspective, with special emphasis on the issues facing the state of Florida. Candidates must be energetic in promoting the goals and views of The James Madison Institute (JMI) with the goal of increasing JMIs digital presence.

The Communications Coordinator will report to the Communications Manager. This is an in-office role, based in Tallahassee, FL.

Responsibilities

  • Draft the weekly Madison Minute email to JMI subscribers and donors
  • Manage JMI email blasts to members, including weekly fundraising emails and event promotion
  • Maintain JMI.org, including proofreading, updating and publishing content 
  • Assist JMIs Senior Vice President with drafting, editing, and publishing JMIs bi-yearly Newsletter, The Messenger
  • Schedule all JMI social media content
  • Assist the Communications Manager with graphic design content
  • Manage JMI Google Ads through the Google Ad Grant
  • Participate in weekly JMI staff meetings, as well as a weekly meeting with the communications and policy teams.
  • Disseminate JMI press releases to the media
  • Ensure the message of JMI is consistent, respectful and appealing to the audience
  • Assist the Communications Manager in any other related tasks

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working with the media
    • Internship experience will be considered
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines
  • Strong work ethic, highly self-motivated with attention to detail and ability to be a team player
  • Ability to travel on occasion, up to 10%
  • Willingness to perform all tasks with a positive attitude and contribute to the team by performing miscellaneous tasks as needed/directed
  • Familiarity with WordPress, HootSuite, and Canva is preferred, but not required
  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism or related

Compensation:

Salary is $55,00-$60,000 and dependent upon the selected applicants experience and qualifications, with generous incentives including bonus opportunities. JMI also offers an equally competitive benefits package.
