About the Role
The NJPI Board of Directors immediately seeks an entrepreneurial executive leader with a deep understanding of free market principles and demonstrated experience in strategy, state-level advocacy, and fundraising. The Executive Director (ED) will report directly to the President and serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors. (Note that the President serves in a volunteer capacity, while the ED oversees the day-to-day management of the organization.)
The ED will oversee talent development, policy initiatives, programs, and business operations. The ED will have an opportunity to immediately work from a shared office in Parsippany or from a virtual office in New Jersey. Regardless of where the ED works, travel to Trenton may be required up to once per month. Candidates working virtually will need to visit the Parsippany office two to three times per week with flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Board of Directors and future staff, fulfilling NJPI’s vision and mission through developing, marketing, and implementing market-based policy initiatives
- Partnering with the Board of Directors to identify, create, and execute a strategic plan to actualize business objectives and scale impact
- Identifying, recruiting, training, and developing a talented team who can lead strategic business functions
- Budgeting and financial management relevant to a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
- Overseeing communications and events strategies
- Developing and executing fundraising strategies and building relationships with donors and allied organizations in order to meet revenue goals
- Communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions in accordance with its by-laws
- Ensuring that the organization is 100% compliant with all state and federal laws and regulations
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors
Requirements
- Passion for, and thorough understanding of the importance of, the organization’s mission and free market vision and the ability to implement them
- A minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience, including effective personnel management and successful project management
- Excellent donor relations skills and proven success in fundraising, generating new revenue streams
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
- A basic understanding of non-profit board governance
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
- Strong work ethic with an entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in start-up culture
- A minimum of some familiarity with state dynamics and policy-making
- Willingness to live and work in New Jersey
- Ability to travel around the state of New Jersey as needed; ability to travel to Trenton, up to once per month
