About the Senior Accountant Opening
The Senior Accountant reports to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for managing the financial reporting, general ledger and various accounting functions to produce accurate and timely financial statements. The Senior Accountant assists in audit and tax preparation and undertakes other related projects and duties, as necessary.
This role can be executed virtually in the United States.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs daily operations of the accounting function, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, cost allocations, accruals and monthly close process.
- Produces accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Maintains compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ensures the accuracy of data and reporting among account classifications and between programs, projects and grants; maintains the quality of data imports and entries into the financial accounting software.
- Supports the accounts payable process, unclaimed funds, credit-monitoring and the annual preparation of 1099 filings.
- Assists with annual financial statement audits and preparation of annual and other tax engagements.
- Follows internal controls and standard operating procedures; recommends and implements best practices.
- Manages state sales and uses tax exemption certificates and other compliance and filings.
- Understands all business software, practices and policies that impact the finance and accounting function; identifies areas for improved efficiency.
- Maintains complete and accurate records.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of accounting experience
- Certified Public Accountant license (CPA) is preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Non-profit experience is desirable
- High technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting and expense software; Blackbaud Financial Edge and Concur experience preferred
- High level of attention to detail with demonstrated analytical capabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
