About the Jack Miller Center
The Jack Miller Center (JMC) is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to promoting education in America’s founding principles and history, an education vital to thoughtful and engaged citizenship. They work to advance the teaching and study of America’s history, its political and economic institutions and the central principles, ideas, and questions arising from the American and Western traditions, all of which continue to animate our national life.
At the college level, the JMC conducts summer institutes for young scholars and other national and regional programs for professors. The center also sponsors courses, events, fellowships, and student activities on campuses. At the K-12 level, the JMC works with partner professors and institutions to provide graduate and professional development programs for K-12 teachers in a growing number of regions. The JMC also offers an array of resources for educators at all levels that will help them bring American history and founding principles back in the education of young Americans.
About the Role
The Manager of Donor Relations and Outreach will play a key role in fundraising efforts and will work closely with the JMC development team. This position develops and implements donor outreach strategies to ensure current donors are well informed and to engage prospective donors in JMC’s work. This individual will report to the Director of Development. The position is based in their Bala Cynwyd office, a suburb located just outside Philadelphia, PA.
- Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals in civic and history education
- Manage and refine the JMC donor stewardship plan
- Work with the Director and development team regularly to coordinate our fundraising, research, and outreach efforts
- Actively research and build a plan for engaging new prospective donors
- Craft compelling individualized updates and fundraising letters for major donors and prospects
- Write thoughtful donor acknowledgements and thank you letters that show donors the importance of their support
- Travel for JMC events on occasion
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of donor prospecting and cultivation methods
- Ability to write clear, concise, and engaging content
- Ability to articulate and personalize JMC’s mission and efforts
- Interest and experience in engaging donors and prospects through phone calls, emails, and letters
- Self-starter, ability to work independently
- Strong contributor to team environments
- Highly organized and methodical
- Minimum of two years working in a similar non-profit position, or transferrable skills
- A four-year degree or commensurate experience
- Enthusiasm for the Jack Miller Center mission
- The willingness to travel occasionally for JMC events
- A goal-oriented mindset and experience working in deadline-driven environments
- Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Experience with contact management systems is a plus
