The Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy seeks an experienced fundraiser to help take the Institute – and West Virginia – to the next freedom-loving level. As a growing, dynamic organization, the Cardinal Institute seeks someone with the willingness to do what’s necessary to advance liberty and opportunity for a state that so desperately needs it.

This position is suited for an experienced, dedicated fundraiser with a proven track record in fundraising strategy development, meeting new people, cultivating relationships, and making asks. This role reports to the Executive Director. The Development Director can work from headquarters in WV or virtually. Ideally the candidate will live in WV or within a short flight which will allow them to travel around WV as needed.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Development Planning: Building detailed plans for meeting the organization’s fundraising goals. These plans will include construction and maintenance of yearly table of gifts, moves management matrix, donor pipeline analysis, donor prospecting, and digital fundraising.
- Prospect Research: Identifying and researching individuals and foundations whose philanthropic interests align with the organization’s work.
- Major Gifts: Cultivating donors and making major gift asks of existing and prospective donors.
- Team Communications: Coordinating and communicating with other Cardinal Institute team members regarding assistance needed to advance fundraising operations.
- Direct Mail Calendar: Setting and maintaining a mailing calendar, as part of the execution of the overall strategic plan, in order to maintain regular contact with donors that we are only able to communicate with by mail.
- Database Management: Oversee data entry and management of SalesForce and Basecamp databases of donors and prospective donors. Create regular reports to update the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other team members of organizational fundraising progress, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in a sales and/or fundraising capacity
- Outgoing, engaging, passionate, and professional demeanor
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Proficiency in SalesForce, Basecamp or other Customer Relationship Management Software
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Ability to work independently and think creatively to complete tasks at hand
- Training and mentoring by development professionals and consultants will be available and ongoing for the right candidate.
- Ability to travel 25%
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications, primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
