About the Role
SPN is seeking a Director of Foundation Relations to join their team. This position is ideal for a pro-liberty, entrepreneurial candidate with grant-writing/reporting experience and success in growing long term, sustainable relationships with foundation partners. The Director of Foundation Relations’ role advances SPN’s mission and strategic objectives by working closely with foundation partners to align their philanthropic goals with SPN’s mission.
The Director of Foundation Relations will report directly to the Senior Director of Institutional Giving and will be responsible for the results of his/her foundation portfolio, which will include a mix of current donors and prospects. SPN is looking for a candidate that has excellent written and verbal communications skills, a strategic mindset, and the drive to expand their foundation partnerships through prospecting and deepening existing foundation relationships.
This position can be based in SPN’s Arlington, VA headquarters or in a virtual office.
Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of foundation partners by developing and executing a moves management strategy for a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25K+. Territory may be nationwide. Originate and edit foundation deliverables, such as proposals, reports, budgets, and letters, on a variety of policy issue areas, programs, and projects.
- Increase SPN’s fundraising capacity through the successful qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations having the capacity to make gifts of $25K and above
- Work to creatively match foundation interests with institutional priorities
- Develop funding proposals, reports, briefings, stewardship plans/letters and other correspondence for foundation prospects and donors, collaborating with staff as needed to develop and stay apprised of complex grants
- Motivate and support leadership and volunteers to make introductions and solicit gifts when appropriate
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of SPN’s funding priorities, case for support, and successes
Qualifications
- 4+ years of fundraising experience with a primary focus on foundation relations and grant-writing/reporting
- Strong interest in advancing State Policy Network’s mission and impact
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel at least 30%
- A team player that can work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment in professional manner
- Capacity to prioritize and balance multiple projects, plan ahead, and effectively meet deadlines
- Strong analytical skills, organizational skills, and superb attention to detail
- An entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook (advanced Excel knowledge or experience with Salesforce is a plus)
