Job Overview
We are seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented individual to serve as the Project Manager of Development. We are looking for a self-starter and project manager who believes strongly in the Tax Foundation mission and has the drive, attention to detail, and skill set to help in administrative and logistics support of a dynamic and fast-paced Development team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing many of the day-to-day administrative and support tasks of the entire Tax Foundation Development team. The ideal candidate will thrive in, and enjoy, an environment where no two days are alike. If you are an individual that can manage prioritizing and completing multiple competing tasks, this is the job for you. There is expansive growth opportunity in this role; the plan for this position is for this person to expand the role and take ownership of a growing list of opportunities in a rapidly growing development department.
This role will be executed from Tax Foundation headquarters in Washington, DC, but the ideal candidate will be able to work virtually.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Donor-facing Communications
- Serve as the main point of contact for the entire department for all donor requests including:

- Daily donor receipt processing and mailing
- Donor request fulfillment ranging from requests for copies of publications to answering questions on the donation process
- Help prepare and send Mailchimp email communications

- Serve as the main point of contact for the entire department for all donor requests including:
- Salesforce
- Manage all changes and updates to Salesforce as it pertains to donations and updating donor data
- Input donor interactions in the appropriate Salesforce donor accounts
- Research
- Assist team with donor research, including prospecting for new donors and preparing research packets for donor trips
- Assist in foundation research in preparation for grant application and reporting
- General
- Attend, and provide assistance for, our annual gala
- Attend, and provide assistance for, conference/meeting opportunities on behalf of the Development Team
- Coordinate state charitable solicitation registration process
- Maintain annual utility subscriptions
- Maintain lists in email marketing database
- Department-wide Support
- Coordinate supply needs for the entire team, including maintaining inventory and ordering new supplies
- Manage team publications/supply room
- Manage vendor and utility invoices, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely payment processing
- Fulfill accounting requests for weekly account reconciliations and annual audit needs
- Assist with all in-house mailings, include mail merges, print production, envelope stuffing, and postage
Qualifications & Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or operations (internships may be considered experience)
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and good judgment
- Solution-oriented with the ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Able to work independently on projects, from conception to completion; to work under pressure; to handle confidential matters with discretion; and to interface well with all departments of the organization and represent Tax Foundation in a highly professional manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with Salesforce and MailChimp
- Ability to travel up to approximately 15% of the time; virtual candidates may need to travel more frequently, including back to the office
