Development Communications Manager – Foundation for Economic Education – Atlanta, GA or Virtual Office

March 26, 2021

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) is an educational non-profit whose mission is to inspire, educate, and connect the rising generations with the economic, ethical, and legal principles of a free society. These principles include: free enterprise, individual liberty, limited government, entrepreneurship, and high moral character. Since 1946, FEE has captivated, inspired, and equipped tomorrow’s leaders to be champions for these principles through top-rated in-person and virtual workshops, compelling online media, educator resources, and written perspectives on relevant and timely topics.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Development Communications Manager is an essential member of FEE’s Development team and is primarily responsible for overseeing and producing FEE’s donor-facing communications. FEE’s donor communications efforts are focused on strengthening cultivation and retention of current donors and engaging prospective donors—ultimately helping the Foundation for Economic Education reach its revenue goals to further its mission and programs. The Development Communications Manager will join an active and dynamic team that has achieved an average of 20% growth annually over the last six years. This position will work closely with the Development Director to create and implement an integrated communications strategy and calendar, both in the mail and digitally.

This is an exciting new role for FEE, the first free-market educational nonprofit organization in the United States. The Development Communications Manager will develop and execute a donor communications strategy, oversee the Development team’s email marketing, guide the creation of non-direct mail collateral materials (e.g., annual report, quarterly newsletter), assist with direct mail copy and schedule, and oversee development of new funding proposals and prospectuses. With projects occurring regularly and involving staff from inside and outside the Development department, the Development Communications Manager will need to have excellent organizational and project management skills.

The Development Communications Manager requires strong editorial, writing, and messaging skills. With an appreciation for how essential integrated and multi-channel communications are to the success of fundraising, this person will model a professional and service-minded demeanor. The successful candidate will be motivated by driving a robust messaging calendar with an eye to messaging and branding.

The candidate must have a personal passion for the principles of a free society, as well as be able to advocate persuasively for these ideas. The qualities that this position requires are strong organizational/operational skills, excellent writing and editing, attention to detail, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and an achievement-oriented personality. The ideal candidate, though not necessary, will have previous involvement in libertarian or conservative organizations.

The Development Communications Manager reports to the Director of Development and can work from FEE’s Atlanta office or from a virtual office elsewhere in the country.

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a benefits package.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage Development communication systems and an integrated communications calendar.
  • Oversee the creation of grant proposals, annual reports, donor emails, donor newsletters, and other non-solicitation content.
  • Oversee fundraising related digital and print communications and collateral.
  • Work with the Director of Development to prioritize objectives and measurable goals.
  • Identify solutions to advance communication efforts that strengthen donor relations.
  • Implement internal development communication processes and procedures for efficiency.
  • Assist with other responsibilities, as needed.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires 4+ years of relevant experience in development writing—including grant writing, report writing, and production of other donor-facing materials–and/or communications writing including email communications, website copy, short-form articles, etc.

He or she will also:

  • be in close personal alignment with the mission and principles of FEE;
  • demonstrate high level of integrity;
  • be able to demonstrate a high level of conceptual and strategic thinking;
  • be dedicated to quality, timeliness, excellence, and efficiency;
  • take initiative to identify solutions;
  • be adept at organizational leadership and supporting the success of others;
  • be motivated by implementing best practices and processes;
  • demonstrate conscientiousness and initiative;
  • have a solid understanding of fundraising practices;
  • possess interpersonal maturity and effective relationship building skills;
  • possess strong oral and written communication skills;
  • be adept in managing projects and competing priorities; and
  • be a collaborative, adaptable, and flexible member of the team.

TO APPLY

Qualified candidates should submit the following application materials in one PDF document:

  • Cover letter, which should detail your philosophical interest advancing FEE’s mission and your salary requirements
  • Résumé
  • Two writing samples related to development communications:
    • 1) long-form (such as a grant proposal, project prospectus, etc.)
    • 2) short-form (such as a donor cultivation email)

Applications should be submitted to Talent Market via this link: https://talentmarket.org/candidates/apply-for-your-dream-job/

Questions can be directed to Claire Kittle Dixon, Executive Director of Talent Market, who is assisting with the search: [email protected]
