The Competitive Enterprise Institute, a non-profit public policy organization dedicated to advancing the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty, seeks a President and CEO to lead one of the premier research and advocacy organizations in the free market movement. The President will be charged with heading a feisty and collegial staff of 40 in promoting free-market solutions to overregulation. He or she will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for CEI, and will oversee all aspects of its operations, such as personnel, external relations, and most especially fundraising.
CEI’s mission is to reduce government-created barriers to economic liberty, innovation, and prosperity. The ideal candidate must be committed to free-market principles, but would also have a mix of leadership talents. He or she would be capable of lighting up a room (be it a small meeting space or a conference hall) through a combination of speaking ability, intellect, humor, and affability. And he or she would be an inspirational team builder, with a supportive and flexible management style.
Unique among free market groups, CEI pursues a full-service approach to advancing public policy. We publish original scholarly studies that make the case for reform, market our policy proposals, and craft and deploy media advocacy campaigns around that foundation of solid research in order to reach policy makers, influential opinion leaders, and grassroots activists. We also build coalitions, joining with allies to advance specific issues at the state, national, and international levels. When appropriate, we pursue our pro-market advocacy in court, often seeking to create new precedents that provide a framework for future efforts to limit governmental (including legal system) and bureaucratic intrusions on economic freedom.
