Mountain States Legal Foundation (“MSLF”) is a nonprofit, public interest legal foundation dedicated to protecting the right to own and use property, limited and ethical government, individual liberty, and the free enterprise system. MSLF litigates cases of national significance on behalf of clients seeking to protect their private property rights and liberties from government overreach. Specifically, MSLF seeks to establish precedent protecting constitutional freedoms, limiting the power of federal agencies, protecting private property from government intrusion, and protecting the right to earn a living. MSLF attorneys practice in federal and state courts, participate in agency proceedings, and write amicus curiae briefs in cases of national importance that are central to MSLF’s mission.
MSLF seeks a staff attorney with 0 to 5 years of experience. Staff attorneys work under the supervision of MSLF’s vice-president of legal affairs, but staff attorneys are responsible for their own caseload and litigate those cases from the filing of a complaint to the argument or trial. Responsibilities will include the development and management of cases, extensive legal research and writing, discovery, motion practice, and appellate advocacy. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a desire to learn about different areas of the law, an impressive academic record, and a passion for MSLF’s mission. The ideal candidate will also be more interested in upholding principles than advancing a particular political ideology.
