Southern Virginia University invites applications for a full-time position in economics to begin Fall 2010. The appointment may be at the assistant, associate, or full professor level, depending on qualifications.
Description:
Southern Virginia emphasizes excellence in teaching, but the candidate should also be committed to scholarly research and writing. Additional responsibilities include committee work and academic advising. Summer teaching is available but not required.
Requirements:
We are particularly interested in individuals who can inculcate an economic way of thinking and an appreciation for market processes at the introductory and intermediate level. Graduate students finishing their theses will be considered, but the Ph.D. must be finished within a predetermined time to be eligible for appointment in Fall 2010. Field of specialization is open, but the ability to teach economic history and/or the history of economic thought would be considered a plus.

Director of Development – Goldwater Institute – Phoenix, AZ
The Phoenix-based Goldwater Institute, hailed by George Will as “America’s most potent advocate of limited government,” seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented Director of Development.
The Director of Development is responsible for leading the fundraising team in developing, implementing and supervising fundraising initiatives in support of the Institute’s mission. The Director will oversee a new strategic fundraising initiative that will be designed to double the Institute’s base of support in a two-year period. The Director coordinates with development consultants and the Institute’s policy, communications, and litigation teams. Additionally, the Director oversees all Institute events and is responsible for developing and sustaining relationships with Institute donors, prospective donors, and community leaders. This position reports to the President.
Minimum Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree
• Six to ten years of related work experience in fundraising and development, preferably in politics or public policy, more experienced candidates welcome to apply
• A demonstrable history of setting and achieving concrete fundraising goals
• Excellent writing skills
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and
• Understand and embrace the Institute’s mission and public policy objectives
